Uzbekistan’s Mirziyoyev congratulates pilgrims in Mecca on Eid al-Adha
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation on 21 May with the Chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, Mufti Sheikh Nuriddin Kholiknazar.
The conversation took place on the eve of the sacred Eid al-Adha holiday and during the period when citizens of Uzbekistan are performing the Hajj pilgrimage.
Through the mufti, the head of state conveyed greetings to pilgrims from Uzbekistan in Mecca, wishing that their prayers for peace, national well-being, and prosperity of the people would be accepted.
It was noted that in recent years more than 15,000 citizens of Uzbekistan perform Hajj annually. This year, 100 citizens were sent on pilgrimage at state expense, including labor veterans, representatives of the older generation, mahalla activists, and citizens from low-income families.
The President inquired about the conditions of stay for pilgrims and the organization of religious rituals. The mufti reported that necessary conditions have been created in Mecca and Medina, and all organizational work is being carried out at a high level.
The conversation also noted that ongoing reforms in the religious and educational sphere are contributing to strengthening spirituality and raising the level of public enlightenment. Recently commissioned complexes named after Imam Bukhari and Burhaniddin Marginani, as well as the Center for Islamic Civilization, were mentioned.
It was also highlighted that additional social support measures are being implemented in connection with Eid al-Adha, including funding for complex medical operations for children, support for citizens with serious illnesses, and the renovation of mosques and cemeteries.
At the end of the conversation, the President conveyed greetings to all pilgrims and wished them a safe return home.
