Uzbekistan prevents attempt to smuggle 1.9 kg of gold to Dubai
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An attempt to illegally export a large shipment of gold abroad was prevented at Tashkent International Airport, the State Security Service of Uzbekistan reported.
The incident was identified during a joint operational operation conducted by the State Security Service and the specialized customs complex “Tashkent-Aero.” During baggage inspection of a passenger on the Tashkent–Dubai flight, gold was discovered hidden inside the structural lining of a suitcase in the form of metal plates.
According to the agency, the total weight of the seized gold amounted to 1 kilogram and 923 grams. The passenger, born in 1980 and originally from Andijan Region and residing in Tashkent, was detained.
During further investigation, authorities identified the involvement of a second individual, born in 1992 and originally from Tashkent Region, previously convicted under Article 182 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan for violations of customs legislation.
Pre-investigation proceedings are currently underway.
