Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An очередное meeting of the intergovernmental commission between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Latvia was held, focusing on cooperation in combating organized crime, terrorism, illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and precursors, the Dunyo news agency reported.

The Uzbek delegation was led by Sardor Mirzarayimov, head of the Criminal Investigation Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, while the Latvian side was headed by Janis Berkmans, Deputy State Secretary of the Latvian Interior Ministry.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to countering transnational crime, addressing terrorism and extremism threats, and combating drug trafficking, human trafficking, and illegal migration.

Particular attention was paid to cooperation in tackling financial crimes, including money laundering and terrorist financing, as well as strengthening anti-corruption measures. The sides also reviewed collaboration in combating cybercrime and ensuring information security, emphasizing the need for coordinated operational activities and the exchange of analytical information.

Agreements were reached to expand cooperation in law enforcement training, including the organization of joint seminars, training programs, and internships, as well as the study and adoption of international best practices. Special focus was placed on border security, countering illicit trafficking of goods and weapons, and detecting crimes involving transport infrastructure.

As part of the visit, the Uzbek delegation also toured a penitentiary facility in the city of Olaine, where they reviewed detention conditions, vocational training systems, social reintegration measures, and efforts to reduce recidivism.

The parties agreed to further develop international cooperation, including enhancing information exchange through Interpol channels, identifying and detaining internationally wanted individuals, and simplifying extradition procedures. Opportunities for conducting joint operations to detect and suppress organized criminal groups were also discussed.

Following the meeting, a protocol was signed outlining the agreements reached and defining priority areas for future cooperation.
