Uzbekistan Hosts GSMA M360 Eurasia Digital Forum 2026
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The international forum M360 Eurasia 2026 has opened in Samarkand, bringing together government representatives, telecommunications companies, and technology businesses to discuss the future of Eurasia’s digital economy. The event is held with the participation of global industry organizations and focuses on the development of mobile communications, digital infrastructure, and the introduction of new technologies across the region.
According to the Mobile Economy Eurasia 2026 report presented at the forum, the mobile ecosystem contributed US$270 billion to the regional economy in 2025, accounting for approximately 8.1% of regional GDP. The report projects that by 2030 this figure will exceed US$300 billion, while its share of regional GDP will rise to 8.4%.
Opening the forum, GSMA Director of Regulatory Affairs John Giusti stated that the mobile industry remains one of the key drivers of economic growth in Eurasia. He said the expansion of 5G networks, digital services, and AI-ready government platforms is laying the foundation for the region’s future digital transformation.
He emphasized the importance of long-term investment, balanced regulation, and cooperation between governments and the industry.
The report also highlights a 29% usage gap in mobile internet access across the region despite expanding coverage. Key barriers include service affordability, digital skills, and user trust. By 2030, nearly 30% of all mobile connections in Eurasia are expected to run on 5G networks, while in Uzbekistan this figure could exceed 40%.
According to GSMA data, the mobile ecosystem already supports around 750,000 jobs across the region, with industry growth projected at 2.4% annually through 2030, outpacing expected overall regional GDP growth.
The forum also hosts Pitch Day: Uzbekistan, an initiative by IT Park Uzbekistan, the International Telecommunication Union, IT Ventures, and GSMA, aimed at supporting tech startups and helping them expand into international markets. The winner will receive a US$10,000 prize and an opportunity to participate in the 4YFN exhibition program at MWC27 Barcelona.
Another key event is the regional Green and Digital Solutions hackathon, focused on developing digital solutions for sustainable development. The semifinal is being held in Samarkand with participation from young innovators from Central Asia.
The organizers include Kyrgyz State Technical University, the International Telecommunication Union, and GIZ PROGRESS.
The M360 Eurasia forum is held at the Hilton Samarkand Regency hotel for the second consecutive year, in partnership with GSMA, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Digital Technologies, Beeline Uzbekistan, and VEON, with support from the International Telecommunication Union and the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications.
