Uzbek Police Officer Detained in Bribery Case
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A prevention inspector at the Chirchik City Department of Internal Affairs in Tashkent region has been detained in connection with an alleged bribery case, law enforcement authorities reported.
According to investigators, the officer is suspected of attempting to “settle” a criminal case in exchange for money.
It is reported that in February this year, the inspector received US$2,700 from a citizen born in 1990, identified as I. Saidov, who is believed to be a member of a criminal group.
The funds were allegedly intended to conceal the fact of bodily harm inflicted on a citizen born in 1994. Of the total amount, US$1,000 had previously been transferred to the injured party.
During an оперативно-розыскное мероприятие conducted by officers of the State Security Service’s Tashkent regional department, the inspector was detained while receiving an additional US$300, intended for further transfer to the victim.
A criminal case has been opened against the suspect, and investigative actions are ongoing.
Law enforcement authorities are also taking steps to identify and hold accountable a colleague who may have been involved in the alleged offense.
