Uzbek Energy Officials Join Low-Carbon Seminars in China
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Specialists from the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan and its affiliated organizations are taking part in international training seminars organized by China’s Ministry of Commerce in cooperation with the China University of Petroleum.
The events aim to strengthen dialogue and experience sharing among developing countries, improve professional skills in modern energy technologies, and support a sustainable transition to low-carbon energy and green economic growth.
The seminars are being held in two main tracks:
— “Seminar on the Transition to Low-Carbon Energy, Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality for Developing Countries”;
— “Seminar on the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Developing Countries – Clean Energy Theme”.
Participants noted that reducing harmful emissions, expanding renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and advancing decarbonization are among the key priorities of the global climate agenda.
In this context, the seminars serve as a platform for participants to learn about modern technologies, innovative solutions, and international best practices in sustainable energy, while also contributing to broader international cooperation.
The events bring together representatives from more than 10 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Pacific region. In total, 53 energy sector specialists from Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Laos, Cambodia, Türkiye, North Macedonia, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia, Cabo Verde, and the Solomon Islands are participating.
The program includes lectures and practical sessions focused on low-carbon and clean energy technologies, mechanisms for reducing carbon emissions, investment in green energy, renewable energy development, and the formation of sustainable energy policy.
Officials note that the transition to a low-carbon economy and the development of green energy have become key priorities of Uzbekistan’s state policy in recent years.
Currently, Uzbekistan operates 20 large-scale green power plants with a total capacity of 5,582 MW, including 15 solar and 5 wind power plants. In addition, 12 energy storage systems with a combined capacity of 1,545 MW have been commissioned.
Solar and wind facilities are located in the Navoi, Bukhara, Samarkand, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Tashkent, Namangan, and Khorezm regions, as well as in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
According to official data, electricity generation from green energy facilities has shown steady growth. Production amounted to 434 million kWh in 2022, 576.9 million kWh in 2023, 4.9 billion kWh in 2024, and reached 10.5 billion kWh in 2025.
In the first part of 2026, green energy output reached 4 billion kWh, a 29 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Strategic plans aim to expand total solar and wind capacity to 21 GW by 2030, including 9.5 GW of solar and 11.5 GW of wind power, with annual green electricity generation expected to reach 60 billion kWh.
