Uzbek Central Bank Factors in 10% Tariff Rise

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has incorporated a সম্ভible increase of up to 10% in electricity and natural gas tariffs into its inflation forecasts. This was announced on 29 April by Central Bank Chairman Timur Ishmetov during a press conference.

He noted that all state-regulated prices, including utility tariffs, are taken into account when preparing inflation projections. According to him, the Central Bank maintains ongoing dialogue with the government, and any expected changes in energy prices are reflected in its calculations.

Deputy Chairman Nodirbek Achilov уточнил that the regulator’s models already factor in a potential indexation of up to 10%, although no final decision on tariff increases has been made at this stage.

Ishmetov подчеркнул that decisions regarding the timing and parameters of any tariff revision fall within the government’s компетенция.

Earlier reports indicated that another adjustment of gas and electricity prices for households is under discussion in the energy sector. According to sources, the government’s economic bloc and the Ministry of Economy and Finance have prepared a proposal to raise tariffs by 9–10%.

No final decision has yet been approved. If adopted, the new tariffs could take effect 15 days after the relevant document is signed.

Under current regulations, Uzbekistan plans to introduce annual indexation of energy prices starting from May 1, 2026, based on inflation levels but capped at 10%. Previously, tariffs were expected to remain fixed for at least three years.

In March 2026, annual inflation stood at 7.1%, and the Central Bank expects it to decline to around 6.5% by the end of the year.
