Uzbekistan Senate Strengthens Digital Product Marking System
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan has considered and approved a law aimed at improving the effectiveness of the country’s digital product marking system through amendments and additions to the Tax Code.
During the discussions, senators emphasized that the development of entrepreneurship and business support remain key priorities of state policy, alongside efforts to strengthen fair competition mechanisms and prevent unjustified inspections. They also highlighted the need to tighten control over product circulation in order to protect consumers and prevent the spread of low-quality and counterfeit goods.
Senators noted that the mandatory digital marking system is designed to ensure product traceability and increase producers’ accountability for compliance with quality standards. It is also intended to protect the market from illegal production and the circulation of goods.
The adopted amendments introduce the possibility of conducting remote tax inspections in cases of violations related to mandatory product marking, but only after two official warnings. Such inspections must be carried out in electronic form, with a maximum duration of up to five days, and the final report must be issued as an electronic document.
According to senators, the implementation of these measures will help reduce the shadow economy and decrease the share of illegal trade in the national economy. The strengthened controls are expected to particularly affect markets for alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, pharmaceuticals, and non-alcoholic drinks, where the risk of counterfeit goods is traditionally higher.
Following consideration, the law was approved by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
