Uzbek Parliament Reviews Report of Uzatom Agency

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan heard a report from the Atomic Energy Agency “Uzatom” on ongoing work to ensure industrial safety in the energy sector.

The session was held in the Committee on Entrepreneurship, Competition Development and Industry. During the discussions, it was noted that the implementation of the project to build the country’s first nuclear power plant is under constant parliamentary oversight in accordance with instructions from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the report presented, the project is being implemented in compliance with international standards and the requirements of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The development of international cooperation in nuclear and radiation safety was also highlighted.

It was reported that the main stages of engineering surveys and geological studies have been completed within the project. Preparatory and concrete works have begun at the site in Jizzakh region, while design documentation and the regulatory framework are being improved. Work on environmental impact assessment and public hearings is also ongoing.

It was separately noted that modern passive safety technologies and multi-level protection systems are being applied during construction to ensure nuclear and environmental safety.

Members of parliament positively assessed the information presented, emphasizing the importance of transparency in the project and paying special attention to safety, personnel training, and public trust.

Following the session, an appropriate decision was adopted. In the near future, parliamentary and senate working groups are expected to conduct site visits to review progress at the construction site.
