Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Academic Russian Drama Theater of Uzbekistan mourns the death of the Honored Art Worker of Uzbekistan, the former artistic director of the theater, Vladimir Shapiro.
Vladimir Shapiro was born in 1948 in Tashkent. He graduated from the Tashkent Theater Art Institute in 1971 (drama theater actor). From 1974 to 1979 he studied at the Leningrad State Institute of Theater of Music and Cinematography at the directing department (St. Petersburg Academy of Arts). Shapiro staged performances in theaters in Stavropol, Rostov-on-Don, Chelyabinsk, Leningrad.
From 1984 to 1990 he worked as a stage director at the Academic Comedy Theater named after N.P. Akimov in St. Petersburg. In 1988 - 89 he created several productions at the Tashkent Russian Academic Drama Theater named after. M. Gorky and in 1990 was appointed to the position of artistic director, and since 1991 - and director of the theater. A student of the wonderful teacher and director G.A. Tovstonogov.
Vladimir Shapiro was awarded the Shukhrat medal (1994), the Friendship Order (Dustlik) (1997), the Fidokorona Khizmatlari Uchun Order (2006).
He is honored Art Worker of Uzbekistan and academician of the International Royal Academy of Arts at the United Nations (2006).
