Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan hosted a session of the Committee of parliamentary cooperation “Uzbekistan – European Union” on 3 November 2016.
The sides discussed actual issues of further boosting relations between Uzbekistan and EU, including in social-economic, investment, financial and legal spheres, as well as in the sphere of protection of human rights and freedoms.
The sides considered measures on building constructive dialogue and partnership in fighting regional and international security threats and ensuring sustainable social-economic development.
The participants with satisfaction underlined dynamically developing cooperation between Uzbekistan and EU, including in the sphere of parliamentarism.
At the session, the Uzbek side presented information on democratic reforms and building strong civil society in the country. The guests also received information on speeding up development of small and private businesses, strengthening protection of private property and reforming judicial-legal system, etc.
The sides also discussed preparations to the upcoming presidential elections, which will be held on 4 December 2016.
The delegation of the European parliament highly rated democratic reforms in Uzbekistan, including fighting terrorism, extremism and illegal drug. The guests expressed in further developing trade-economic, investment and scientific-technical cooperation between Uzbekistan and EU states.
At the end of the event, the participants adopted decision on further boosting parliamentary cooperation, improve trade-economic relations.
