Uzbekistan, China discuss cooperation in energy sector

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A session of sub-committee on cooperation in energy sector of the Uzbek-Chinese intergovernmental committee on cooperation was held in Tashkent on 12 August 2014.
Representatives of ministries and departments, companies and firms of Uzbekistan and China, responsible for foreign trade-economic, banking-financial, economic, oil and gas, energy and geology sectors attended the event.
During the forum, Uzbekistan and China discussed current state and perspectives of cooperation in economy, oil and gas, as well as power sectors.
The sides also considered issues of further developing and strengthening bilateral relations, as well as implementation of mutual beneficial joint projects.
Uzbekistan and China currently are implementing projects for US$2.8 billion in energy sector, of which US$2.5 billion (90%) are direct investmnents.
China is one of the largest trade partners of Uzbekistan. In last six years, the volume of bilateral trade rose six times and reached US$5.2 billion in 2013.
In the first six months of 2014, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and China made up US$2.163 billion.
There are 482 joint ventures with participation of Chinese capital and some 70 Chinese companies have their offices in Uzbekistan.
