Navoi Airport increases cargo transportation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Intermodal logistic center at international airport Navoi carried out over 300 flights to transport 7,187.8 tonnes of cargo in the second quarter of 2014, which rose by 37.1% year-on-year, deputy head of service on organization of cargo transportation of the airport Sherzod Ikromov told to newspaper Znamya Drujbi.
He said that Navoi Airport is located in heart of Central Asia and it takes six hours to fly to largest aviation hubs of the world such as Frankfurt, Milan, Dubai, Delhi, Shanghai and Incheon. Currently, Navoi Airport is becoming competitive regional logistic center, linking Europe and Asia.
The cargo terminal has been commissioned in cooperation with South Korean airline Korean Air, which has been managing airport since 2009. The agreement was prolonged for five years in 2013.
He said that terminal is equipped with latest technologies and it is one of the best in Central Asia. The terminal provides all spectrum of services – from loading to storage.
Currently, Korean Air carries out 11 flights on routes Incheon-Navoi-Milan, Incheon-Navoi-Tel-Aviv and Incheon-Navoi-Basel via the Navoi Airport each week.
Uzbekistan Havo Yollari conducts eight flights a week from Navoi to Delhi, Dubai, Tianjin and Frankfurt. It also carries out charter flights Navoi-Hamburg-Navoi.
The expansion of Navoi Airport is continuing. Koran Air is implementing measures on modernization of the airport and improving of quality of services. It is planned to increase the volume of cargo transportation.
The operations of the airport can be boosted with development of Navoi free industrial and economic zone. This will help to boost infrastructure and improve well-being of population.
