Zopp to clash with Klaasen, Istomin to take on Kravchuk in semi finals of Tashkent Challenger
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The 244th ranked South African Raven Klassen will take on 170th ranked Estonian Jurgen Zopp while unseeded 191th ranked Russian Konstantin will take on the lone remaining seed at the event second seeded local star Denis Istomin in the semi-finals of the $125,000 Tashkent Challenger an ATP tour event.

In the quarterfinals matches played at the Olympic School Tennis courts here today Klassen kept up the splendid run at the event scripting a 7-6(6), 6-3 win over Ukranian Denys Molchanov in 1hour 35 minutes, while 170th ranked Zopp scored his second consecutive win over Tsung Hua Yang of Taipei winning 7-6(6), 6-2 in 1 hr and 20 mins.

Unseeded Russian Konstantin Kravchuk played the longest match of the day to overcome country mate Denis Matsukevich 7-6(4), 7-6(1) in a 1hr 50 mins. Local Favourite Denis Istomin scored a 6-2, 6-3 win in just 43 minutes to make it to the last four of the event.

Raven Klassen seemed to ride his form putting out unranked player Denys Molchanov of Ukraine 7-6(6), 6-3 to enter the semi finals at the event. Klassen played composed tennis in spite the tall Ukrainian Hammering 11 aces in the match. Both players held on to their serves till 6-6 forcing tiebreak.

In the tiebreak too, scores went with serves till 6-6, Klassen played an intelligent point to secure the mini break and hold on to his serve to take the set.

In the second set Klassen who also made it to the doubles finals partnering American John Paul Fruttero broke Mochanov in the 8th game despite of Molchanov serving two aces in the game and held on o make it to the semis.

Klassen's opponent will be unseeded Jurgen Zopp Estonia who will be playing his second semi final in a row. Zopp scored a 7-6(6), 6-2 win over Tsung -Hua Yang of Taipei, in a repeat of their last meeting at Ningbo in China last week. “I started a little slow and a break down, but played better with every game, I was lucky in the tiebreak too, the second set was much better for me. The level was very high in the first set, I enjoyed a little more mental advantage because of my close win over Yang last week,” said Zopp.

Both players played a close first set trading breaks early in the match that saw as many as 11 aces from both players in the set. A lucky point saw Zopp secure a mini break and then hold on to win the set. Zopp played solidly from the baseline then on and broke Yang in the 1st and 5th games to win the set 6-2.

Local star and third seeded Denis Istomin ended the winning run of Uzbek compatriot and Wild card Murad Inoyatov. Istomin was a class above breaking Inoyatov in the 6th and 8th games in the first set and the 8th game in the second set. Inoyatov looked overwhelmed by the occasion floundering on his serve and game. Inoyatov served 6 double faults in the match which lasted just 43 minutes.

Istomin who is looking for his fourth Challenger title on a trot will take on Russian Konstantin Kravchuk who scored a 7-6 (4), 7-6(1) close win over country mate Denis Matsukevich in the longest match of the day lasting 1 hours and 50 mins.

Kravchuk and Matsukevich traded breaks in the 1st and 6th games to level scores, both players matched each other stroke for stroke, but Kravchuk's experience came to his rescue in the tiebreak which he won 7-4.

Kravchuk broke Matsukevich in the 4th game to take a 5-2 lead, Matsukevich played some brilliant tennis just losing four points thereafter and breaking back Kravchuk in the 9th game and holding on to level scores at 5-5.

Matsukevich had 3 breakpoints on Kravchuk's serve in the 11th game but could not break his wily opponent. In a tiebreak that followed, patience prevailed and Kravchuk more patient of the duo prevailed, happy to just keep the ball in play, and winning the tie break 7-1, the match and place in the last four.

In the doubles finals Harri Heliovaara of Finland and Denys Molchanov of Ukraine will clash with John Paul Fruttero of USA and Raven Klaasen of South Africa in the doubles finals.

In the semifinals Heliovaara and Molchanov scored a 7/6(12), 7-6(8) win over Uladzimir Ignatik/Denis Matsukevich, while Fruttero and Klaasen edged out local player Murad Inayotov and Russian Sergei Krotiouk 7-6(5), 4-6, 10-3
