Youth Eco-Train to the Aral Sea Promotes Cultural and Environmental Awareness in Karakalpakstan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of a youth environmental campaign and the “We Are Together with the Aral Sea” eco-marathon organized by the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, participants traveled to the Republic of Karakalpakstan to explore the region’s tourism, cultural, and natural potential.
The first day of the program included visits to the pilgrimage site of Shaykh Jalil Bobo, as well as natural landscapes of the region, which are increasingly considered promising destinations for ecological and educational tourism.
During the trip, environmental actions and educational events were organized to promote environmental awareness and encourage young people to protect the natural heritage of the Aral Sea region.
Participants also visited the Chilpik historical monument, one of the country’s well-known cultural heritage sites of interest to both domestic and international tourists.
At the historical complex, a competition for young artists was held, dedicated to the cultural, historical, and natural richness of the region.
Organizers note that the development of domestic, ecological, and pilgrimage tourism has become one of the key priorities of national tourism policy. Particular attention is being paid to promoting the tourism potential of the Aral Sea region and developing new travel routes in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
Experts say such initiatives help increase youth engagement in domestic travel, strengthen environmental awareness, and deepen understanding of the country’s unique natural and historical heritage.
They also emphasize that ecological tourism in the Aral Sea region is gradually becoming an important direction of sustainable regional development, combining environmental protection, cultural heritage preservation, and domestic tourism growth.
