Yandex.Mahalla service launched in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Yandex.Mahalla service started working in Tashkent. Here, people read and discuss with their neighbors news of their area, place ads, learn about interesting events nearby. Prior to this, the service worked only in Russia, where it is called Yandex.District.

Each of the 11 districts of Tashkent has a community, where users can read local news: for example, about opening a store across the road, dialing into the sports section, or installing lights. In communities, people consult with each other and post ads - sell things, look for work, attach pets. Tutors, workers or nannies can offer their services to neighbors, and entrepreneurs can talk about discounts, new products and services.

Representatives of district khokimiyats will conduct official accounts at Yandex.Mahalla, and the Public Council at the capital’s khokimiyat will help them answer questions from users. Now it will be easier for the residents of Tashkent to tell local authorities about local problems and ask when they will repair the road or open a kindergarten.

“Tashkent became the first city outside Russia where Yandex.District began to work. When launching the service in Uzbekistan, we took into account the needs of local residents: for example, we added the ability to write both in Uzbek and Russian, and also gave the site a local name,” Yevgeny Lukyanchikov, regional director of Yandex in Uzbekistan, said.

“In Yandex.District, residents of the cities in which the service operates discuss various issues: cold batteries in homes in Novosibirsk, installation of ballot boxes at the parade in St. Petersburg, opening of a historical park in Krasnodar or reports of a municipal deputy on work in Moscow. We think that in Tashkent the service will be in demand and will become the main place for online communication of neighbors,” Tatiana Gorelik, head of Yandex.District service said.

Yandex.District appeared in 2016, and now it is inhabited by residents of more than ten cities: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar and others. The monthly audience of the service exceeds 3.5 million users.
