WWII Veterans and disabled soldiers to receive US$10,000 payment
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree "On the Encouragement of WWII Participants" ahead of the Day of Remembrance and Honor, celebrated annually on 9 May.
The document, adopted in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Victory over fascism, aims to provide financial support to veterans.
According to the decree, World War II veterans and disabled soldiers will receive a one-time payment of US$10,000.
Additionally, individuals equated to war veterans will receive 25 million soums. Participants of the labor front during wartime will be granted 3 million soums.
The president also signed a resolution on preparations for the 80th Victory Day anniversary. As part of the official program, a fireworks display will take place on 9 May 2025, at 21:00 in the "New Uzbekistan" park in Tashkent. The Ministry of Defense and Tashkent’s city administration will oversee the event.
During World War II, around 2 million Uzbeks were mobilized to the front. Of these, over 538,000 were killed, and 158,000 remain missing. Since gaining independence, approximately 200 military personnel and law enforcement officers have sacrificed their lives in the defense of the nation.
