On 24-26 May, the "Role of the city of Samarkand in history of the world cultural development" international symposium took place in Samarkand. For over the three days over 30 researchers, historians and scholars from 16 countries around the world along with their Uzbek counterparts have discussed various aspects of history and modern life of the ancient city.

On 24 May, the "Role of the city of Samarkand in history of the world cultural development" international symposium took place in Samarkand. For over the three days over 30 researchers, historians and scholars from 16 countries around the world along with their Uzbek counterparts have discussed various aspects of history and modern life of the ancient city.

The opening ceremony and the first plenary sitting of the forum were held in the Ulughbek Madrassah – one of the three ancient educational institutions, which are part of the most beautiful architectural complex of the Registan Square, Jahon news agency reported.

The president of the Academy of Science of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh.Salikhov said that he was confident that the forum would worthily contribute to the work of learning the history and present of the ancient city and allow its participants to exchange with their new discoveries.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov has said that Samarkand, which stands in same rank with the ancient and holy cities of the world, secures the worthy place in life of modern Uzbekistan.

The head of the UNESCO office in Uzbekistan Michael Barry Lane said that since Uzbekistan and UNESCO has nurtured relations, the historical and cultural heritage of Samarkand has been securing o­ne of the central places in bilateral ties.

"The measures, which are undertaken by the leadership of Uzbekistan on renewal and preservation the invaluable heritage of Samarkand, deserve the highest mark. For over the last years we have held a number of meetings and events o­n studying the various aspects of history and present of this great city. And we are going to develop our relations", he has also said.

It must be emphasized that the events are held within the framework of the 2750th anniversary of the city with direct participant of UNESCO.
