Workshop by Birmingham Metropolitan College focuses on fashion engineering
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On October 7, representatives of the UK’s Birmingham Metropolitan College and fashion designer Jacob Kimmie led a workshop for young designers in Tashkent.

Creating a beautiful design clothes does not require just being highly imaginative and an ability to make pencil sketches; it requires, first of all, an accurate calculation of many details which need to be taken into consideration. One should pay attention to so-called stylish lines or the lines of style in clothes. The proportionality and design of clothes depend on their correct arrangement, the workshop attendees learned.

“I really love photos of nature where there are very many beautiful lines which match the lines of human body. Sketches of these lines look good on paper, but when they are put into practice these images sometimes just don’t look good. This is exactly why we chose to project images from a computer to a mannequin, moving the image until we will reach original design and right lines”, said Emily Ford-Halliday of Birmingham Metropolitan College.

During the workshop the professionals demonstrated an interesting way of creating clothes, using projection of images to fabrics. Then Jacob Kimmie, using scissors, pins and pieces of fabric, cut a dress with soft drapery and an interesting silhouette.

The participants of the workshop – young designers and students - had a chance to practice the method on the spot. They had a few stands with mannequins, computers, projectors, fabrics and other necessary tools. They were assisted by seven students from Birmingham College.

Birmingham College students said they are very glad that they have come to Uzbekistan and traveled to Samarkand. This visit will add to their experience which they need in their creative endeavors, they noted, with some of them voicing plans to come back to Tashkent with their collections next year.
