Work is underway to provide general education institutions with fiber-optic communication

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications receives many questions and appeals from citizens and users of social networks.

In this regard, at a briefing held on 3 September at the Agency of Information and Mass Communications, the press secretary of the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications Sherzod Akhmatov answered their most interesting questions.

As you know, starting from 14 September, the work of general educational institutions will resume in both traditional and online formats. What work is being done to create convenience in distance learning?

Among the top priority issues, in addition to the accelerated development of telecommunications infrastructure in the republic in the Year of the Development of Science, Education and the Digital Economy, issues of providing social facilities, including secondary schools and preschool educational institutions with high-speed Internet, are also included.

This, in turn, will become the basis for young people to acquire modern knowledge.

In particular, large-scale work is underway to widely introduce modern information and communication technologies into the general education system and create facilities for students during a pandemic.

At present, measures are being taken to lay fiber-optic communication lines to about 10 thousand educational institutions.

Since the announcement of the quarantine in connection with the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Uzbekistan, all operators have provided free access to the websites of educational resources so that pupils of secondary schools and pupils of preschool educational organizations can freely master school subjects at home.

Together with the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan, three television channels were organized, on which free broadcasting of television video lessons was organized.

To create convenience for teachers when using mobile services, a special service was introduced - the tariff plan "Ta'lim" ("Education"). Currently, this tariff plan includes additional options.

In accordance with the instructions of the President, during a conference call dedicated to the preparation for the new academic year and in order to create additional facilities for distance learning, a preferential tariff plan "Maktab" ("School") was developed. Currently, work is underway to implement it.

It should be especially noted that since this year, up to the present time, more than 9 thousand kilometers of fiber-optic lines have been laid. The main emphasis was placed on providing social facilities with high-speed Internet.

In order to create even greater opportunities for users, the throughput of backbone telecommunication networks in the regions was increased 2 times, in the regions - 4 times.

In order to expand the coverage of mobile communications and improve the quality of services provided, 1,375 mobile stations were installed and more than 3,000 stations were modernized based on high-speed Internet technologies.

Work in this direction continues. By the end of this year, over 4,000 fiber-optic communication lines will be laid and over 800 mobile communication stations installed.
