Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From US$35 billion to US$45 billion will be required in 2022 to vaccinate most of the world’s adult population against coronavirus. Such data were given by the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus at a briefing in Geneva, TASS reports.

According to the WHO Director General, in 2021, the international partnership to ensure access to drugs for COVID-19 and diagnostics ACT-Accelerator requires funding in the amount of US$19 billion. “We estimate that we will need another US$35 billion to US$45 billion next year to vaccinate most adults in the world,” said the head of the World Health Organization.

Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus noted that more people have been infected with coronavirus in the world in the past two weeks than in the first six months of the pandemic. Moreover, more than half of the cases reported last week are in India and Brazil. He urged the population of these and other countries to continue to follow the health recommendations of the WHO. In particular, observe distancing measures, avoid crowds, wear masks, ventilate areas, wash hands and cover your mouth when coughing.

An international partnership called the ACT-Accelerator was officially launched on 24 April 2020 by WHO, the European Union, France and philanthropists Bill and Melinda Gates. It is about "a global partnership and collaboration to accelerate the development, production and use of safe and effective technologies to prevent, diagnose and treat COVID-19," the WHO said.
