WHO chief announces removal of pandemic status for COVID-19

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The World Health Organization is canceling the pandemic status for COVID-19, WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus said.

The COVID-19 pandemic is no longer a public health emergency of international concern. This was announced today by the World Health Organization.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made the announcement in Geneva at a press conference via video link.

The situation with COVID-19 caused by the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was officially declared an emergency in the field of health at the international level on 30 January 2020 (the first outbreak of the disease was recorded in Wuhan, China in December 2019), and 11 Martha.

Director General of the organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted that the World Health Organization received information about less than 7 million deaths, but the real number is several times higher. According to the WHO on 3 May, 765,222,932 cases of coronavirus infection were registered in the world, 6,921,614 people died.

In total, at least 20 million people have died from the disease in the world. And in Uzbekistan, the total number of infected is more than 253 thousand people. The total number of deaths from coronavirus in Uzbekistan currently stands at 1,637 people.
