Vatican envoy visits Uzbekistan Muslims Board
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Newly appointed Apostolic Nuncio of Holy See (Vatican) to Uzbekistan with residence in Moscow city Ivan Jurkovič held a meeting with the chairperson of the Committee on Religious Affairs under the Cabinet of Minister Ortiqkbek Yusupov and chairperson of Uzbekistan Muslims Board mufti Usmonhon Alimov on 23 January 2012.

Before the meeting, the guests visited Hazrati Imam Complex and Library, where they familiarized with Osman’s Koran, and Tashkent Islam Institute named after al-Bukhari.

During the meeting at the Uzbekistan Muslims Board, the chairperson of the Committee briefed the delegation of religious situation in Uzbekistan. He said that all religious organizations have equal rights in Uzbekistan.

Usmonhon Alimov briefed the guests of the support of the government to Muslims of Uzbekistan, including support Hajj and Umra pilgrimage.

Ivan Jurkovič expressed gratitude to warm reception and excursion to Hazrati Imam Complex.

It was noted that religion is serious aspect of spiritual development of the country and the fact that 2,225 religious organizations operate in Uzbekistan, says that the country pays special attention to religion.

At the meeting, the sides discussed other issues of mutual interest.
