UZSE, AIFC consider issuing green bonds on stock exchanges

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 March 2024, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Stock Exchange (UZSE) Georgiy Paresishvili met with Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Green Finance Center of the Astana International Financial Center (AIFC) Manas Gizhduaniev and Chief Product Officer of AIFC Authority Daniyar Kelbetov.

During the meeting, the parties focused on green finance, deeply discussing global practices and cases of issuing green bonds on stock exchanges. The parties reviewed plans for further action to implement this initiative in the Uzbek capital market, which could contribute to the emergence of green bonds in the local market.
It is worth noting that on 26 October 2023, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Toshkent Stock Exchange, the Astana International Exchange and the AIFC Green Finance Center, paving the way for joint activities.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue joint work, and representatives of the AIFC expressed their readiness to assist in the development of a new green segment, including ESG, in the Uzbek capital market, as well as conducting trainings in Tashkent for local specialists.

Georgy Paresishvili supported this initiative and expressed his readiness to closely cooperate in this direction.
