The Uzbek car maker said its name change came into effect on 18 March. The change of the company’s name does not imply changes of rights, liability and responsibility of the company with respect to the third parties, the company noted.

As earlier reported, General Motors and UzAvtoSanoat state-owned company signed agreement on creation of new joint venture - GM Uzbekistan - on the base of UzDaewooAuto. GM Uzbekistan JV has been set up to manufacture and sell Chevrolet automobiles in Uzbekistan.

UzAutoSanoat holds a controlling interest in the new venture, and GM Corporation currently owns 25% plus one share with the option to increase of its share up to 40% in the future.

The General Motors Uzbekistan will manufacture Chevrolet cars and SUVs that will be distributed both through internal dealership network consisting of over 60 dealer companies. The plant in Asaka (Andijan region, Uzbekistan) already assembles three of the Chevrolet’s models – Captiva, Epica and Tacuma. As soon as this year the product range will be expanded further by the new Chevrolet Lacetti model.
