The company plans to achieve this due to implementation of a project on introduction of new technologies on development of coal mine in Angren.
Uzbekugol plans to introduce single mechanized complex with capacity of 5 million tonnes of coal a year. The project cost is US$325 million.
The project will be implemented within three years and finance the project due to own resources of Uzbekugol, loan of Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan, as well as credits of international financial institutions.
Uzbekistan has some 1.833 billion tonnes of explored coal reserves, including 1.786 billion tonnes of brown coal and 46.3 million tonnes of black coal. Forecasted resources make up 323.4 million tonnes of coal.
Large reserves of black coal are located in southern regions of Uzbekistan – Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions. Currently, Uzbekistan mines coals in three fields – Angren, Shargun and Baisun mines.
Demand for coal is increasing in Uzbekistan and the country plans to double coal production - to 6.4 million tonnes by 2016.
