Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At COP29 in Baku, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Carlos Rodriguez, CEO and Chairperson of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The meeting focused on expanding cooperation with GEF in climate resilience and ecosystem conservation in Uzbekistan.
The GEF's vital role in implementing biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, and climate adaptation projects in Uzbekistan was highlighted, with a joint project portfolio now exceeding $100 million.
Key areas of attention included establishing a regional air quality monitoring network, greening programs, ecotourism development, endangered species protection, and restoring the Aral Sea region.
The parties also discussed hosting major international events in Uzbekistan next year, including a GEF donor meeting.
