Uzbekistan’s Digital Technologies Ministry, Latvian Ambassador Discuss Expansion of IT Cooperation and Digital Economy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Sherzod Shermatov, Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, held talks with Girts Jaunzems, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to the Republic.
During the meeting, the parties discussed promising areas of bilateral cooperation, including the creation of high-paying jobs for youth and the expansion of remote employment opportunities. It was noted that interest in learning foreign languages — particularly English, Japanese, and Korean — is growing in Uzbekistan, which is seen as an important factor for the development of the ICT sector and the digital economy.
Shermatov presented proposals for attracting Latvian companies to Uzbekistan, offering them opportunities to join IT Park as residents. He highlighted the available tax incentives and favorable conditions for operations. Special emphasis was placed on expanding IT service exports: leading companies from Japan, Korea, and Arab countries have already become IT Park residents, and their numbers continue to grow. The Minister stressed that similar opportunities are open to Latvian businesses as well.
The talks also covered the development of the startup ecosystem, support for young innovative projects, investment attraction, and the joint implementation of new initiatives.
For his part, Ambassador Jaunzems underlined the high potential for expanding existing cooperation and confirmed that Latvian companies intend to participate in ICT Week Uzbekistan 2025, scheduled for 23–26 September. The two sides also discussed cybersecurity, digital partnership, and skills development.
Later the same day, the Ambassador familiarized himself with the activities of UZTELECOM’s center.
