Uzbekistan’s Car Market: Rise in New Car Sales, Decline in the Secondary Segment

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Center for Economic Research and Reforms has published an analytical report on the state of Uzbekistan’s automotive market for the first half of 2025.

In the passenger car segment, June saw a sales increase of more than 3% compared to May, amounting to approximately 80,000 vehicles sold.

However, total car sales from January to June reached about 446,000 units — 23% lower than during the same period in 2024. The primary reason for this decline was reduced activity in the secondary market, which traditionally accounts for the majority of transactions.

The new car market, in contrast, showed positive momentum. Compared to May, sales volumes rose by more than 10%, reaching 2,600 vehicles. Sales of domestically produced new cars increased by 15.6% to 23,700 units. Meanwhile, sales of new imported cars declined by 12.6%, totaling around 4,000 vehicles for the month.

The used car segment remained relatively stable, with over 52,000 second-hand vehicles sold in June — a slight decrease of 0.4% compared to May. On a year-over-year basis, however, this segment grew by 1.3%.

The electric vehicle (EV) market continues its upward trajectory. Although EV sales dipped slightly in June by 1.7% (to 5,100 units), the year-on-year growth remains substantial. In the first half of 2025, 28,800 electric vehicles were sold in Uzbekistan — a 62.6% increase compared to the same period last year. The highest growth in EV sales was recorded in Syrdarya, Khorezm, and Kashkadarya regions.
