Uzbekistan welcomes creation of the Consultative Council for Peace in Afghanistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan welcomes the initiative of the President of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, to establish the Consultative Council for Peace and the government group on peace negotiations. This was reported by the Office of Public Relations and Media of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

The report noted that this decision may open up opportunities for broad participation in the peaceful political process of representatives of all segments of multi-ethnic Afghan society.

"Uzbekistan proceeds from the assumption that resolving the situation in Afghanistan will certainly contribute to ensuring security and developing regional cooperation in Central and South Asia," the statement says.

The Uzbek side believes that the involvement of all political forces of Afghanistan in the peace process will ensure the peaceful development of the country with unconditional respect for the fundamental principle - only by the Afghans themselves and under the leadership of the people of Afghanistan should undergo a political process to establish lasting peace in the country.
