Uzbekistan fruitfully cooperates with the UN and its specialized institutes in various areas. In particular, the country cooperates with the UNDP, UNFPA, UNODC, UNICEF, UNAIDS, UNESCO, and others.
Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry said that the priority directions of interaction between Uzbekistan and the UN are fighting with modern security threats and challenges, stabilization and reconstruction of Afghanistan, non-proliferation of weapons of mass distraction, mitigation of Aral Sea crisis, social-economic development, protection of human rights.
Uzbekistan actively helps the UN efforts in ensuring global and regional security. Initiative of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov on creation of Nuclear Free Zone in Central Asia was important contribution of Uzbekistan in this direction.
Uzbekistan joined 13 conventions of the UN against terrorism and Uzbekistan put forward important initiatives directed for consolidation efforts of international community in this area.
Uzbekistan closely cooperates with the UN and its specialized agencies on fighting drug trafficking and stabilizing situation in Afghanistan, as well as protection of environment.
