Uzbekistan to purchase two trains from Swiss company STADLER

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan plans to purchase two trains from the Swiss company STADLER. This was announced by the country’s Minister of Transport during a Senate meeting on 30 September.

He noted that the STADLER trains will be tested on Uzbek railways, and based on the results of these trials, a decision will be made regarding the possibility of acquiring a larger batch of these trains.

Ilkhom Makhkamov emphasized that most of the rolling stock is outdated. He reminded that modernization work has been carried out over the past five years and stated that, in accordance with the strategy effective until 2030, Uzbekistan will annually update its rolling stock.

The minister also reported that Uzbekistan is purchasing six high-quality electric trains from the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem.

It is worth mentioning that on 13 September, Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov met with a delegation from STADLER Rail, headed by the chairman for the CIS countries, Alexander Lyuft.

The main topics of discussion included potential areas of cooperation, such as the procurement of electric trains, training Uzbek specialists for service maintenance, and the localization of STADLER products in Uzbekistan.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to further study the company’s capabilities in light of the needs of Uzbekistan’s passenger railway network, as well as to develop pricing policies for various segments of STADLER’s production and service in the CIS region.
