Uzbekistan to lift restrictions on Afghan agricultural exports

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation of the Islamic Emirate, led by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, has returned to Kabul following a two-day visit to Uzbekistan. The delegation included government officials and representatives of various sectors.

Speaking at Kabul International Airport, Mullah Baradar Akhund described the visit as productive, highlighting significant progress in cooperation across agriculture, energy, transportation, trade, and railway infrastructure.

During the negotiations, the cost of a 500 kV power transmission project was reduced from US$252 million to US$222 million. Additionally, an agreement was reached to conduct preliminary studies on extending the railway from Hairatan to Herat, with Uzbekistan financing the research phase before project implementation.

Moreover, Uzbekistan has agreed to lift restrictions on Afghan agricultural exports, facilitating increased supplies to the Uzbek market. The parties also agreed to expand electricity imports from Uzbekistan and lower tariffs next year.
