Uzbekistan to install 19 digital TV transmitters by end of 2015
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is planning to install 19 digital TV transmitters by the end of 2015, the Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communication said.

According to the ministry, Uzbekistan carries out stage-by-stage transfer to digital television broadcasting.

Currently, the coverage of population with the digital television makes up 54%. By the end of 2015, it is planned to install 19 digital TV transmitters, which will allow to increase coverage up to 70%, the ministry said.

As earlier reported, Ogawa Seiki Co. Ltd (Japan) made the best offer for supply digital TV broadcasting equipment and the corresponding contract for 8.751 billion Japanese yens (US$73.63 million) was signed.

The project will be co-financed by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation in consortium with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. In January 2015, National Bank of Uzbekistan for Foreign Economic Activity signed a loan agreement for co-financing of the agreement.

Earlier, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said Uzbekistan will install 84 television transmission devices with high capacity in 2015, which will ensure 100% digital television coverage in all regions of the country.
