Uzbekistan to implement border crossing with Kazakhstan and Tajikistan using ID cards

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  Uzbekistan plans to introduce a border crossing system with Kazakhstan and Tajikistan using ID cards. This was announced on 20 November by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his speech in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, where he outlined the government’s priorities for the next five years.

The President emphasized the importance of conducting an effective foreign policy, expanding the number of international partners, and strengthening cooperation with neighboring countries.

To achieve these goals, it is proposed to adopt a new version of the Foreign Policy Concept. Special attention will be given to strengthening good-neighborly relations in Central Asia and ensuring regional stability and security.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also mentioned that in 2025, Uzbekistan will host a meeting of the "Central Asian Five" (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan), which will be a significant step towards enhancing regional cooperation.

He reminded that, since September 1, citizens of Uzbekistan can cross the border with Kyrgyzstan using ID cards instead of passports. According to the President, this system will be implemented with Kazakhstan and Tajikistan as well.

The President stated that a priority for Uzbekistan’s foreign policy will continue to be the development of systematic and effective ties with Central Asian countries, key international partners, respected organizations, and financial institutions.
