Uzbekistan to host campaign “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World”
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 25 November to 10 December 2012, Uzbekistan will host the international campaign “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World”.

A series of events will be hosted by National NGOs and UN agencies during the campaign’s 16 days, in order to attract public attention to the need to promote and protect women’s rights. These events will be held in parallel with others occurring around the world.

The campaign, which is being held in Uzbekistan since 2011 , will involve the National Association of NGOs of Uzbekistan, the ‘Women’s Council’ NGO, the Women’s Committee, the Centre for support of Civil Initiatives, the UN Population Fund, UN Women, the UN Development Programme, the UN Information Office and the International Association of Kurash.

The campaign’s series of events, held in cities throughout Uzbekistan from 25 November to 10 December, will be preceded by a training event and press conference conducted in Tashkent.

A three-day training-of-trainers event will be held from 12 to 14 November, training volunteers who themselves will organize public awareness-raising campaigns in all 14 regions of Uzbekistan.

15 November will feature the campaign’s opening ceremony, collaboratively established by the event organizers, during which the media will obtain information about the campaign, about the work of the national partners involved, and about the initiatives of UN agencies regarding the promotion and protection of women’s rights.

Campaign events involving the public will begin on 25 November in the biggest park in Tashkent, where a number of events will be held including interactive relay races, concerts, and a variety of knowledge contests regarding women’s rights. Similar events will be then held in other regions of the country.

This campaign will aid the implementation of both the ‘Concept of further deepening democratic reforms and formation of civil society in the country’, and the National Action Plan for the implementation of the Concluding Observations of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (as established through the results of the fourth periodic report of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the State program on the ‘Year of Strong Families’ in Uzbekistan).
