Uzbekistan to hold elections to self-governing bodies in Nov-Dec

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will hold elections of chairpersons (aksakals) of the self-governing bodies and their advisors in November-December 2013.

The Council of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan adopted resolution “On preparing and holding of elections of the chairpersons (aksakals) of the self-governing bodies and their advisors” on 12 September 2013.

The upper house of parliament created special commission on organizing and holding upcoming elections.

According to the Senate, some 9,756 chairpersons (aksakals) of the self-governing bodies and over 97,000 of their advisors will be elected this year.

Chairpersons (aksakals) of the self-governing bodies and their advisors are elected for 2.5 years. Last time, elections of chairpersons (aksakals) of the self-governing bodies and their advisors was held in May-June 2011.

Citizens’ gatherings in Uzbekistan are self-governing bodies, which functions in villages, mahallas of cities and villages. The citizens’ gatherings represent interest of population and adopt decision on their behalf in their territories.
