Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree to hold a large-scale celebration marking the 1155th anniversary of the renowned Islamic scholar Imam Maturidi in 2025. The high-profile events will highlight his enduring legacy and influence on the Islamic world.
As part of the festivities, an international scientific and practical conference titled "Maturidism – A Doctrine of Tolerance, Moderation, and Enlightenment" will take place in Samarkand in April 2025.
A scientific competition will also be organized for international scholars specializing in Maturidi’s teachings, with winners receiving an opportunity to visit Uzbekistan and participate in cultural and educational programs, seminars, and training sessions.
A key aspect of the celebration will be the academic translation and publication of Imam Maturidi’s fundamental works, "Ta’wilat al-Qur’an" and "Kitab al-Tawhid", into Uzbek and other foreign languages, alongside additional publications on Maturidism.
Furthermore, Uzbekistan will host a conference on "Maturidi Teachings and Modernity" and a scientific article competition. The country’s Muslim Board has been advised to organize a "Maturidi Knowledge Contest" among imams and students of Islamic institutions, with prizes awarded to the winners.
