Uzbekistan to Expand State Support for Potato Farming

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan will expand government support for potato cultivation. The President has signed a decree “On Additional Measures to Increase Potato Production and Develop Seed Production” (No. 269 from 8 September 2025).

The decree sets key targets: by 2028, at least 10 million mini potato tubers with a germination rate of no less than 85% are to be supplied annually, and by 2030, the average yield in the country is planned to increase from the current 16–17 tons to 25–30 tons per hectare.

The Ministry of Agriculture is instructed to place annual orders with research institutions and private entrepreneurs by December 1 for the cultivation of potatoes using in vitro methods, as well as micro- and mini-tubers for the next season.

Starting from 1 January 2026, through the State Agricultural Support Fund via commercial banks, loans will be provided to cover up to 50% of potato cultivation costs. The loan term will be 12 months at 12% per annum with a six-month grace period. Obtaining an insurance policy will be mandatory.

Additionally, beginning in 2026, potato farmers will be reimbursed up to 50% of the costs for installing solar panels from the state budget, capped at 50 million Uzbek soums.
