Uzbekistan takes measures to prevent the spread of monkeypox

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan is implementing measures to prevent the introduction and spread of monkeypox. This was announced by Rustamjon Ikramov, head of department of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee.

According to him, virologists in the capital and regions have undergone specialized retraining. Additionally, work is currently underway to procure test systems for detecting monkeypox. Ikramov noted that test systems obtained in 2023 are already available and are being used when the disease is suspected.

These tests are being distributed to the regions and will be used for diagnostics if necessary.

Special seminars are also planned for medical professionals to train them in identifying monkeypox symptoms and providing first aid.

Monkeypox is a rare viral disease that is particularly dangerous for people with weakened immune systems. The infection is accompanied by symptoms such as fever, intoxication, swollen lymph nodes, and a rash that progresses through several stages, starting as spots and ending with scars after the ulcers heal. In mild cases, the disease resolves on its own and lasts between 14 to 21 days.

Earlier, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, declared the monkeypox outbreak in Africa a public health emergency of international concern.
