Uzbekistan spends some US$750m to healthcare system in last 10 years
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan carried out gradual and targeted work on further reforming and developing healthcare system in 2011, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said at the session of the Cabinet of Ministers on 19 January 2012.

Islam Karimov said that about 137 billion soums and US$136 million were directed to reconstruction of medical establishment and their re-equipment from budget resources and attracted preferential loans and grants.

President stated that over US$750 million of budget resources and soft loans and grants were directed to development of healthcare system in last 10 years.

Uzbek head said that reforms of healthcare system allowed to decrease sickness rate in the country. He said that inborn anomaly fell by 32.4%, infectious diseases by 40%, infectious deceases of respiratory tract – 4.2 times. Karimov said that such illnesses as diphtheria, paratyphoid, poliomyelitis, malaria and other diseases were fully eliminated.

Islam Karimov underlined that annually 5.9 million women underwent medical examination in 2011 and 150,000 pregnant women – screening examination. Over 243,000 pregnant women also received free polyvitamins and immunization of children against infectious diseases made up 100%, he added.
