Uzbekistan Simplifies Registration and Protection of Intellectual Property
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a recent plenary session, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis approved a law introducing amendments to several legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at further improving the legal regulation of intellectual property.
It was noted that in recent years, Uzbekistan has implemented large-scale reforms aimed at increasing legal awareness among the population and entrepreneurs in this field, eliminating excessive requirements through the digitalization of intellectual property protection procedures, and ensuring effective legal safeguards for intellectual rights.
The newly adopted law introduces important innovations, including the simplification of the state registration process for intellectual property objects, a reduction in the timeframes for examining certain types of applications, and the elimination of the requirement to submit certain documents during registration.
Special attention is given to improving convenience in paying patent fees, which is expected to make it easier to obtain legal protection for inventions and developments. At the same time, liability for violations in this area is being strengthened, which will contribute to the protection of the rights of intellectual property holders.
For example, under the amendments to the Law “On Legal Protection of Computer Programs and Databases,” the timeframe for verifying the completeness and compliance of application documents is set at ten days from the date of submission.
The procedure for issuing patents for industrial property has also been simplified: the patent document is now automatically sent to the applicant via the electronic system without the need for additional coordination steps.
Senators emphasized that the law is aimed at building a modern and transparent intellectual property system that fosters innovation, supports entrepreneurial activity, and contributes to sustainable economic growth. It also plays an important role in strengthening respect for intellectual labor and protecting the legitimate interests of rights holders.
