Volunteers from among local residents are keeping round-the-clock watch on the border, conducting passport checks. They are also inspecting vehicles and goods entering Uzbekistan. The campaign is code-named "Protect your own house by yourself ".
According to Kyrgyz NGOs, “more than 140 such points are currently functioning in border areas of Uzbekistan’s Andijan Region”.
“The Uzbek side plans to set up about 300 such points in areas bordering Kyrgyzstan,” NGO workers said.
