Uzbekistan 04/11/2010 Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia hold first round of political consultations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia held the first round of political consultations at the level of the deputy foreign ministers in Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia, on 1 November, Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan said in a statement.

During the consultations, the sides exchanged opinion on current affairs and perspectives of bilateral cooperation in politics, trade economy and cultural-humanitarian spheres. The sides exchanged actual issues of international character of mutual interest, including settlement of situation in Afghanistan, events in Kyrgyz Republic, problems of rational use of water resources of Central Asia’s trans-boundary rivers.

The sides agreed that exchange of visits at high level will help to lifting bilateral cooperation to new level and stimulate establishing and developing partnership in politics, trade-economic and investment spheres.

At the same time, it was noted historic, cultural and spiritual commonness of Uzbekistan and Saudi people are creating firm base for establishing long-term and mutual beneficial relations.

Acknowledging significant potential for expansion of cooperation, participants of consultations underlined that it is not used in full scale. The sides noted that third session of intergovernmental commission, which will be held by the end of 2010 in Tashkent, will be important step in diversification of economic relations and implementation of joint projects.

At the end of the meeting, the sides agreed that holding of political consultations between foreign ministries in regular basis will help to foster political dialogue on regional and international politics.
