Uzbekistan, Russia mark 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Trade turnover between Russia and Uzbekistan made up US$6.68 billion in 2011, Ambassador of Russia to Uzbekistan Vladimir Tyurdenov said at the roundtable in Tashkent.

The roundtable dedicated to the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Russia was held at Poytaht Business Center in Tashkent on 19 March 2012.

Vladimir Tyurdenov said that trade turnover between Russia and Uzbekistan reached record volume of US$6.68 billion in 2011. Russia firmly holds position of the main trade partner of Uzbekistan and its share in external trade of Uzbekistan reached 26.2%. In it turn, he said, Russia is the fourth largest trade partner of Uzbekistan in the CIS (3.8%).

Russian envoy said that the investment cooperation is intensifying. Total volume of Russian investments in last six years made up over US$5.7 billion soums, he added.

Tyurdenov stated: “This year we mark the 20th anniversary of establishing of diplomat relations with Uzbekistan”. The event coincides with Navriz – or new day, which symbolic, he said.

He said that in March 1992, Russia was one of the first countries, which recognized independence of Uzbekistan. On 30 May 1992, the countries signed an agreement on main interstate relations, friendship and cooperation, the envoy said.

Russian Ambassador said the countries are building relations on principles of trust, equality and mutual respect. The sides are closely cooperating in regional and international issues.

Envoy said that position of Russia and Uzbekistan on many international issues, including fighting new challenges and threats, are common.
