Uzbekistan receives US$6.5 billion in remittances from January to June

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – The volume of remittances to Uzbekistan from January to June 2024 amounted to US$6.5 billion, marking a 25% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This was stated by Mamariyzo Nurmuratov, Chairman of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

According to him, at the beginning of the year, the regulator forecasted a growth in remittances of 11-12%.

Changes are also observed in the geography of labor migration. Remittances from Kazakhstan reached US$347 million. From the USA, US$271 million was received, which is a 43% increase compared to the previous year. Remittances from South Korea grew to US$267.3 million, a 90% increase. Additionally, there was a significant rise in remittances from Germany (+64%) and Poland (+93%).

The share of remittances from Russia decreased from 82% two years ago to 77%. In the first half of the year, US$4.95 billion was transferred from Russia to Uzbekistan.
