Uzbekistan ratifies SCO good neighborhood treaty
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On the ratification of the Agreement on the long-term good neighborhood, friendship and cooperation of the state members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (Bishkek, 16 August 2007)”.

Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 8 August 2012 and Senate passed the document on 30 August 2012.

The Agreement on the long-term good neighborhood, friendship and cooperation of the state members of the SCO was signed in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, on 16 August 2007.

The agreement envisages legal registration of good neighbourhood, friendship and cooperation relations, formed within the SCO, based on commonly accepted principles and norms of international law.

The document also strengthens principles of state sovereignty, territorial integrity, peaceful settlement of disputes and disagreements, as well as mutual respect on chosen way of political, economic, social and cultural development, taking into national values of each state.

The agreement is not directed against any state or organizations, and the signees will support principle of openness to the external world to turn the SCO space into region of peace, cooperation, prosperity and harmony.

The agreement consists of preamble and 26 articles. The ratification of the agreement does not require to amend existing legislation.
