Uzbekistan plans to launch production of mobile phones
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is planning to launch production of mobile handsets with the cost of US$15 million and seeks investors for its implementation.

Uzeltehsanoat Association is considering issue on organization of production of mobile handsets at GSM 800, 900 and 1800 standards with participation of foreign partners.

According to Uzeltehsanoat’s presentation, the capacity of enterprise, which will be located at 2.9 hectares, will make up 2 million mobile phones a year. At the same time, the enterprise will reach its full capacity in four years.

In the first year, it is planned that the enterprise will produce 1 million units of handsets, in the second year – 1.25 million and the third year – 1.5 million.

It is expected that the project will be repaid in four years. Gross annual income will grow from US$60 million in the first year of operation to US$120 million in the fourth year.

The project will require US$15 million of investment, of which US$10.5 million will be directed to purchase of equipment and US$2 million to construction works. Other US$2.5 million will be used as working capital.

According to Uzeltehsanoat, the annual demand of Uzbekistan in mobile phones makes up 5 million and Central Asia – 12 million.

As earlier reported, currently number of mobile communication subscribers in Uzbekistan exceeded 19 million.
