Uzbekistan plans to increase digital TV coverage up to 37% in 2011
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to increase coverage of population with digital television up to 37% in 2011, the Uzbek President Islam Karimov said on Friday at the session of the government.

Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan held the session on 21 January 2011 to discuss social-economic development in 2010 and important priorities of economic programme in 2011.

Uzbek leader Islam Karimov said that implementation of a complex programme on transfer of all territory of Uzbekistan to digital television by 2015 is important.

He said that the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information (UzACI) was ordered to install modern digital transmitters at TV centers of Nukus, Urgench, Andijan and Qarshi cities in 2011.

He added that the UzACI was also ordered to increase coverage of population with broadcasting television programmes in digital format from 23% to 37% and expand production capacity of digital television receivers at Navoi free industrial-economic zone up to 50,000 units a year.

Islam Karimov said that it is necessary to ensure launch of media center at National Television and Radio Company in the first half of 2011. He said that the center will be equipped with modern multimedia equipment of Japan and Germany.
