Uzbekistan plans to increase coal production
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is planning to increase coal production by twofold to 6.5 million tonnes a year by 2016, deputy director-general of Uzbekugol joint stock company Nosirjon Umarov said.

Nosirjon Umarov said that the company works on decreasing exploitation expenses through introduction of modern technologies along with increasing production volume.

Uzbekugol currently implements several projects directed at modernization and re-equipment of the enterprises of industry.

In particular, the company implements the first stage of project on re-equipment of Angren coal mine, which will help to increase overburden operation up to 42.6 million cubic meters (up by 25.1 million cubic meters).

Uzbekugol said that it is implementing investment project “Transfer of boilers No.1-5 of Novo-Angren thermal power station to annual coal burning with modernization of Angren mine”.

Currently, some 15 excavators, 30 BELAZ trucks with the capacity of 110 tonnes, transportation lines, bulldozers, etc.

The company works on the second stage of modernization of Angren mine and modernization of Shargunkomir, within which it is planned to produce black coal at the volume of 900,000 tonnes a year.

Uzbekugol also works over a project “On organization of production of naturally burnt clay at Angren mine with the forecasted volume of US$4 million. The project will be financed due to own resources of the company and it will help to produce 300,000 tonnes of naturally burnt clay, which will be realized in internal market to cement plants.

Uzbekugol has been cooperating with Uzbekistan Science Academy over perspective projects on production of cement from secondary kaolin. The company also works on production of fertilizers from coal waste, which will help to improve land fertility.

Uzbekugol is working on project on developing coal mine Vuadil in Ferghana region, which reserve rated at 117 million tonnes.

Uzbekistan has some 1.833 billion tonnes of explored coal reserves, including 1.786 billion tonnes of brown coal and 46.3 million tonnes of black coal. Forecasted resources make up 323.4 million tonnes of coal.

Large reserves of black coal are located in southern regions of Uzbekistan – Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions. Currently, Uzbekistan mines coals in three fields – Angren, Shargun and Baisun mines.
